MISTER FOX

Mister Fox is an illustrated children's book based off the story by Robert Michael Ballantyne. The story, first published in 1857, featured an old nursery rhyme; the earliest version is said to have appeared as a Middle English poem around the 15th century (also one of oldest songs that has survived in the oral tradition). To reflect it's origins I chose to illustrate using soft, organic shapes with ornate borders reminiscent of 15th century manuscripts. I wanted the cover to be tactile but also fit in with the style of soft materials books were being written on during the 1400's so I printed on cotton and dyed, embroidered canvas for the spine.

he prayed to the moon to give him light...”
